My Approach To Therapy

warmth, inclusivity and acceptance

Therapist Etobicoke - Krista Huyer Psychotherapy

I know that starting therapy, or even just considering it, can feel intimidating. Maybe you're unsure what to expect, or wondering if you'll be able to put things into words. Thats okay. You don't have to have it all figured out to begin. I'll meet you exactly where you are, human to human.

My work is rooted in warmth, inclusivity, and deep acceptance, not just as ideas, but as ways of being. These are my home base. This is the energy I bring into every session.

I draw from humanistic and holistic approaches that honour the whole person. Your mind, emotions, nervous system and body. So much of what we carry lives not just in our thoughts, but in our tissues, patterns, breath and felt sense. Thats why we don't just talk about your experiences, we tune into how they're showing up in your body too.

Some of the modalities I work with include:

  • Compassionate Inquiry

  • Somatic and body-based practices

  • Nervous system regulation tools

  • Brainspotting (for trauma and things that feel stuck)

Internal family systems (IFS-informed parts work)

My style is both directive and non-directive which means I will offer gentle guidance or ask meaningful and deep questions that encourage reflection. While other times I will follow your lead. Sessions are collaborative, spacious, and attuned to what your system can hold. Nothing is rushed.

Together, we create a space where all parts of you are welcome. The overwhelmed parts, the curious parts, the tired parts, the sensitive parts. Even if we aren't sure what they feel.

This work is about more than just coping. It's about coming home to yourself, softening patterns of self- protection, reconnecting with your body's wisdom, and feeling like you again.
It's a process of healing that unfolds slowly, safely and with deep respect for your inner world.
